Nursing is a profession that requires great heart, deep compassion, and a high level of commitment. Vocational nurses (VNs) play an integral role in the healthcare field, promoting health, preventing illness, and caring for all individuals. Vocational Nurses (also known as practical nurses) work closely with doctors, physicians, and registered nurses to provide hands-on care directly to patients. As a licensed vocational nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct medical care for sick, injured, or convalescing patients.
In Lamson’s Vocational Nursing diploma program, students learn to work as a part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team in selected healthcare settings with individuals, families and communities across the life span. Students learn how to promote wellness, provide safe, empathetic care, and provide care in a culturally sensitive manner. Designed to be completed in as few as 12 months, the 72.5 quarter-credit program includes a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on application so that students learn both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills they need to be successful in their future position, including the communication and interpersonal skills that are necessary for patient care. In Lamson’s Vocational Nursing program, students learn how to
- Measure and record vital signs
- Administer medications and injections
- Start and monitor IVs
